🔍 What Stuck With Us This Week
Karpathy: From Vibe Coding to Agentic Engineering
Andrej Karpathy (OpenAI co-founder, former head of AI at Tesla, now founder of Eureka Labs) sat down with Sequoia’s Stephanie Zhan at AI Ascent 2026 to revisit “vibe coding” a year after he coined it. A few things that stuck with us:
He’s never felt more behind as a programmer and why that’s exactly the point.
Agentic engineering is the more serious discipline taking shape on top of vibe coding.
Don’t think of LLMs as animals, think of them as ghosts: jagged, statistical, summoned, and needing real taste to direct. You can outsource your thinking, but never your understanding.

Are You Just a .md File?
Right on theme: Death by Clawd — “The SaaSpocalypse Survival Scanner.” A tongue-in-cheek tool that asks the question every founder is quietly wondering. A few things that stuck with us:
It scores whether your SaaS could be replaced by a single Claude Skill, a humble little
.mdfile.Equal parts funny and uncomfortable, depending on what you’re building.
A genuinely useful gut-check on where your real moat actually lives.

The End of the Funnel
Rob May (Investing in AI) makes a sharp argument that pairs perfectly with the agentic theme: the 30-year obsession with UX is ending, because agents don’t use your interface, they hit the API and skip every screen you designed. What replaces it is HX, or “Harness Experience.” A few things that stuck with us:
The job shifts from driver to director: you stop operating the tool and start managing it like a talented employee.
Good HX rests on three pillars: steerability, auditability, and clean intervention points.
He maps five places the value lands for investors from agent audit infrastructure to the “Figma of HX.”

You Need Better Storytelling
Kyle Poyar (Growth Unhinged) on a trend founders shouldn’t sleep on: storytelling has quietly become one of the most in-demand skills in tech, with US LinkedIn “storyteller” posts doubling last year. A few things that stuck with us:
The signals are real: Anthropic posted a $300K+ Head of GTM Narrative role, and OpenAI is backing a tech talk show.
Why now: attention is scarcer than product, traditional media keeps collapsing, and AI-flooded noise means only the best rises.
He lays out five storytelling archetypes for 2026, Advocate, Analyst, Teacher, and more, to find your lane.

🤝 Asks: How You Can Help
A Founder Needs Host Locations
Nearby Nearby Network is looking for host locations in Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, and two stops on the coast. Each event is a public community conversation about disaster preparedness, resilience, and understanding what rural communities actually need before, during, and after a crisis.
If you (or your org) have a space and a real connection to your community, they’d love to hear from you. Reach out to Rhonda Jean directly at Rhonda@nearbynearbynetwork.org.
And honestly, this rolls in nicely with our last podcast. We just sat down with Jeffrey Kaplan of Optimist Ventures and Venture Asheville on rebuilding Asheville after Helene and his novel funding mechanism, the SPA note.
Same through line: communities figuring out resilience and recovery from the ground up. If you missed it, give it a listen, and then go help Rhonda find a spot.
Hiring? Looking?
There are fresh openings on the Tweener hub! Founders, if you’re hiring or looking, start here:
