Likeable Badass
We’re taking a one-shot break from our founder series to introduce you to the awesome Alison Fragale. I first heard of Alison when overnight, 10-20 of the top female founders and execs in the Triangle started not only buzzing but out-right raving about Alison’s new book: Likeable Badass: How women get the success they deserve. I had a big drive coming up so hit the Audible.
As a somewhat introvert tech-founder, 30-yrs ago when I became a founder, I realized the biggest of a long list of skill-gaps I had was ‘selling’ or persuasion. Over the last 30 years I’ve worked at this and the best resource I’ve found aside from working directly with incredible sales people, was books on psychology - specifically persuasion.
Even though Likeable Badass is written for women, I found the lessons in psychology were amazing and a bunch of topics on the edge of persuasion that I hadn’t heard of like:
The interpersonal circumflex
The dynamics of power and respect
To appeal to the widest audience, the book talks about how to use these frameworks, tools and strategies in more of a corporate workplace. I used the opportunity of this interview to cover the basics in the first part and then in the last part, ask Alison how she’d recommend female founders apply these in Startupland.
The result - some really solid gold nuggets in here for everyone.
